TO THINK GLOBALLY
AND ACT LOCALLY
The pandemic has heightened our need to reconnect with the environment and establish roots. To accomplish this, taking action towards recycling in Bangkok is crucial.
In the Nangloeng neighborhood, recycling efforts at the household and community levels are hindered by almost 90% of the waste produced being mixed. Therefore, resource-based approach to waste management is vital for effective Bangkok recycling, along with an increase in recycling efforts.

Community X Covid-19
Community X Covid-19
Many Nang Loeng residents have experienced food insecurity and financial difficulty before COVID-19. Nearly all households have seen severe and widespread increases in food insecurity. This came as a result of COVID-19’s effects, and finally it is expected that this problem will continue.
Studio UpCrcle has collaborated with E Loeng group and numerous nonprofits to support food and grocery needs for local residents. And to support eco-friendly activities as a short-term COVID-19 solution.

Social Innovation Hackathon
The creators joined the Social Innovation Hackathon hosted by the British Council (Urban Studies Lab, and FREC Bangkok) in 2020. Inviting people to work with the Nang Loeng community. This award-winning idea is now being implemented.

The importance of this piece is not in the work itself, but rather in its role in accumulating the elements needed to create a piece.
Each object brings back memories of the team’s conversations with community members that became more personal over time, including the community’s involvement in weaving and knitting classes before it developed a trust to share private items to contribute to the work alongside items gathered in the neighborhood on neighborhood walks with kids, scraps from neighborhood shops, and household waste.
Community Exchange Ecosystem
Community Exchange Ecosystem
The Community Exchange Ecosystem (CEE) initiative attempts to create a community exchange ecosystem.
The ecosystem
This ecosystem is set with limitations brought on by the unpredictable situation of the land and the lack of public spaces that can provide a steady supply of foods. And create job opportunities for individuals in an urban community.
Upcycling Weaving for Community
Upcycling Weaving for Community
Concentration is necessary for weaving, which at that precise moment causes us to reflect on who we are and how our lives have turned out. And that is what consequently motivated me to collaborate with local artisans to produce works of art using recycled materials.
The interaction between the artist and the community is depicted in this work of art. Which was inspired by mood trackers and upcycled weaving for a community project.
The techniques used in this work of art include weaving, fusing, latch hook, hand-tufting, knitting, embroidery, and crochet.
